A gathering and a thought

Over the weekend, I met my JC classmates for a last supper of sorts for Rachel who's flying off to study in Cornell.

I think the word I always used to describe our class (with all tenderness) was dysfunctional. We were definitely a weird combination, with people taking weird subject combinations. I realised that as much as I had 2 years with this bunch, I probably haven't gotten to know everyone very personally.

It struck me that just maybe, I had placed too much of an importance on my studies back then (although I do not regret studying ultra hard for my A levels), and neglected/undermined the importance of relationships with the people around me. Meeting my classmates again after a year or so made me realise that I really like my class and dysfunctional as we were they're a really fun bunch :) so after meeting them again, there was a feeling like... being given a second chance to get to know these people better; and I think it's nice that after all this time we still met up :)

On my part, I think I'm starting to appreciate school as a place that forces you to build relationships with people around you. I keep telling myself that uni is the last chance for me to experience any school-like experiences, so... as much as I can I'll try to participate more and create more memories for keeping.

-

On a less thoughtful note,
when Paul and Yamani saw me, they asked me whether I did plastic surgery. I guess that just shows how long it's been since we last met. I told them it's called make up (along with a -_-). But I honestly think I haven't changed much. I think after JC when girls (or boys?) have time to worry about their looks and groom themselves and wear clothes other than school uniforms, they'd obviously look better than they did before. Okay, this sounds quite stupid but I guess it needs to be said.

Also, my thoughts are flying elsewhere now, but once in awhile I like to facebook stalk myself and look at old pictures of me- sometimes for fun and sometimes when I'm deciding what fringe I should cut, mostly the latter (do you do that too?)- and EVERY SINGLE TIME I cringe and ask myself "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING" with that
- hairstyle
- terrible piece of clothing

and also "wow, look at that puberty" because
- jawline growth
- decreased fats on the face/puffiness
- obvious acne

but my goodness. I guess 10 years from now I'll be looking at myself thinking the same thing. better give my future self something better to look at.
I really should exercise more.

and TAKE MORE PHOTOS. I'm becoming like some aunty. growing old already, must document my youth.

Here are some baby photos of myself:

I think I was really smiley. I'd like a baby like me. hahahahaha.

Addictive

I think my hair's growing too fast for my liking and I keep thinking about cutting it more. and more. and more. like yesterday I was on nastygal.com and I noticed this model had hair that was cropped shorter and it looked quite nice... and I suppose it would last longer before I would have to chop it again, because my hair now is fast approaching normal long-length I think and I do not like it I really like short hair now. :(

I think part of it is testing the limits of.. my face? hahaha. I expect at some point I'll be like :O what have I done and then swear all over again never to chop my hair that short ever again. but.. right now that girl (up there)'s hair is super chic. and I WANT IT.

Stargazing

Sometime earlier this week, I think I was kinda free so I went around googling for interesting things to do in Singapore and chanced upon the free Stargazing sessions at The Science Centre Observatory.

I was really keen but honestly a little doubtful about what could be seen from Singapore's bright lit skies. So I went on Friday and I learnt that night- DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF A POWERFUL TELESCOPE.

Their main telescope looked like this:

Like literally, this is the exact model. I went to google search it and all. and it came with the dome thingie too. ok let me be more scientific about it, it was a 40-cm Cassegrain reflector of combined focal length 520-cm (I copied that from the science centre website).

The only thing that wasn't too great was that you have to queue up to view whatever they're showing, since there's only one main telescope and shifting it takes awhile (since it's so huge). That friday night we got to see the moon and saturn. IT WAS DAMN COOL.

because, the moon and saturn look exactly the same as the images we see in movies and on tv and on images. like this:

I know it looks fake, like a lousy CGI or 3D image a beginner generated in his first lesson. but... it really looks like that. and for a moment if they hadn't told me that that little shiny thing in the sky I thought was a star was the exact planet Saturn I was looking at in the telescope, I would've thought I was looking at a digital image and not a live.... view of Saturn. (ok la, I'm just making a point. but really it was damn cool, and I'm not that dense I would have believed it) I think for half a moment I would have expected the planet to move... but I suppose planets don't move so fast do they. no they don't...
anyway, I got to see titan too! which is saturn's largest moon. it was so bright~~~

but it wasn't really the best time to go stargazing that night (and I kinda suspected it but because it was free and jw&I were free we just went down anyway) because it was really cloudy- it had rained in the day time and the skies weren't the clearest. so as a result saturn looked really much tinier in the telescope because zooming in too closely would distort the image.

the moon was as crater filled as it looks in images hahaha but we've seen the moon too often so I won't put pictures up here. I don't really have images of my own because it never really struck me to take photos... yeah. hahaha. and it was dark.

and they had a beautiful map of the constellations hanging on the wall of the queuing area, it was circular and divided all the constellations into the different times of the year/when they're in view :) which gives us our star signs!

I also found out from the star map they gave out that a lot of characters' names in fiction are named after constellations or stars hahaha.

Sirius and Regulus are names of stars~ and those are of course names of the Harry Potter characters Sirius and Regulus Black. Castor and Pollux are also names of 'twin' stars that form Gemini... (I did a quick google), but the names are so familiar because they're also characters in the hunger games hehehe.

but most of the star names are super fanciful and I'd sound stupid shouting at my kid so I don't think I'll name my kid after a star.

but I wouldn't say it was impossible for me to dress my kid up as a star- literally.

Ultimately, the most interesting I learnt was from one of the volunteers from TASOS (the astronomical society of singapore), who was manning the telescopes. He's a middle aged sorta guy with an interest in star/astronomy photography and he showed us these AMAZING photographs of nebulas, star clusters, galaxies and constellations which he took himself. They were like this quality, no joke:

this is the Orion Nebula, apparently it's super easy to get an image of this beauty from Singapore :O

Anyway, the super funny/inspiring thing I realised was that, while this guy could take all these crazy images and explain the constellations and astronomical jargon to us, he wasn't all that tech-savvy and even had problems (like normal aunties and uncles) navigating their phones hahaha. Which led me to realise how amazingly passionate he was, I think if our stomachs weren't growling and we needed to go, he could have gone on allll night about how to start in an interest in Astronomy. Apparently, he was always interested in the stars and he began his journey in seeking the stars and learning about them around the 1980s. and even now TASOS (and him and his group of friends) take trips around the world to view different astronomical events like 20s solar eclipses (which aren't always successes) and meteor showers and the aurora and all that.

It's so amazingggg.

but I think actual astronomy-enthusiasts would laugh and my childish attempts to describe what I learnt that night. and I guess they're right to do so because in my brain a lot of what I'm thinking is.... IT'S ALL SO PRETTY.

In other news, I also watched the France vs Germany match that night. and it's getting so little mention in my blog because it sucked. the game was totally rigged.

My Day Out

It was a really shitty start to the day.

but then I decided that being down in the dumps all day was no good and really, I should be doing something about my mood. and while I've never been good at math, I remembered something Nut told me which is that the most difficult math is the kind that enables us to count our blessings (upon googling this is actually a quote by Eric Hoffer, but Nut is my Eric Hoffer today). So I went out to try and cheer myself up!

And I think God really wanted to cheer me up too because it was a really good day. I took the bus out so I could take my time to read on the bus to town and calm down. The weather was super hot but I guess it was better than a dreary day..

I went to kinokuniya to see whether there were new titles to check out and at one point I saw many Happiness related books which really spoke to me~

at one point this middle-aged man approached me to ask for $3 because he didn't have enough money to pay for a $5 cookbook that he wanted to get his wife. I felt pretty bad for him because he really didn't look very well off at all, and on hindsight I'm somewhat upset at myself for not giving him more? But in the moment I didn't think much and so I only gave him that $3 and spoke to him for a bit. He seemed really touched at the gesture but on my part, I was touched by how he wanted to encourage his wife who was apparently learning how to cook. He started telling me about how keeping a job is hard for him, that he got fired after 3 weeks, that he was full of regrets and I should work hard and appreciate all I have. Then he thanked me again and gave me a hug. I was a little taken aback, because actually he gave me x2 hugs. I guess I just hope that it was good for him, that hug.

It encouraged me, because he told me that he was happy to meet a good person. and God knows I need to be reassured today.. that kindness and goodness can be shown and nurtured in the small acts of daily life. (in case it isn't making sense, this has to do with how my day started out really shitty; have you ever doubted yourself?)

Then I received encouragement from friends- and this is amazing because I never told anyone I was feeling down. sometimes it's just nice to be remembered :) (side note: I've also realised a skill I've always lacked is in maintaining my relationships, perhaps because of a different perspective I used to have, but I'm going to try to keep in touch with more people.)

And I got a new pair of earphones and met up with jw and had pizza. It ended up being a really really good day, and now I'm ready for school tomorrow :)

heading off to the lab at 8am to finish up my lab work (occlusal equilibration and occlusion waxups) which I'm... not exactly looking forward to because it's mind boggling and frustrating :( BUT, OPTIMISM.

GONNA WEAR IT ON MY EYES.

The only constant is change

Last night, while I was up doing nothing, I was actually watching a bunch of TED talks and in particular I really enjoyed these two:

Now, you don't have to watch it, so I'm going to give you the main conclusion (or what I gather) from these two videos. From the first, it is that we should embrace the hard choices in life because they give us the opportunity to decide what kind of person we want to be and become that person. Easy choices are obvious, but hard choices require to weigh-in your values and prioritise what is important to you.

and the second video;
The illusion of the end of history
Basically it is that as humans it is far easier to examine ourselves in retrospect than to imagine our future selves. We always think that now is the time when we have fully matured and we will never change anymore. We think that we are our permanent selves. I found it interesting because I think that's really true (for me at least?) but I'm looking forward to the changes I'll make in my life in the future. I wonder how my values or priorities or outlook on life or favourite music or favourite activity will change.

One of my favourite quotes from that video was "when people say that they can't imagine how something will be in the future, they're really talking about their own lack of imagination" (or something along those lines)

But yes, it's actually been a helluva journey so far and I think that's what's so beautiful about life. Up till last month I never would have imagined cutting my locks off. I think they provided me with a sense of security because I always thought (vain as I am) that my face is really huge and I could never do short hair. I always associated my long hair with femininity and prettiness. But somewhere along the way I really wanted a change. Call it impulsive, but I had a sudden #yolo moment where I just wanted to SEE what I'd look like in short hair because truth be told, this is really the first time in my life I'm voluntarily cutting my hair so short.

(Side story: The first time I had my hair so short was in primary 1 because I was in CCPS and they didn't allow girls to have long hair unless you were a dancer. I cut my hair short, but I didn't like it very much and since then my mom wrote letters pretending I took ballet classes outside so I could keep my hair. The other time I had my hair short was completely by accident. My hair had grown so long it was up past my waist so I really wanted a trim, so I wanted to cut maybe 2 inches off my hair. My hairdresser took it upon herself to get rid of all the dried, split ends and I ended up with hair that was way shorter than I was mentally prepared for. That was in... 2009? I swore after that to never ever ever cut off my hair. but hahaha look, now I cut it all off. and after a recent perm in february too.)

I guess in secondary school or even JC I never would have imagined that I'd try to exercise regularly either. It's still a work-in-progress, but I want to be fit and love myself. I want to keep the body I've taken for granted all my life and stay slim, but not through starving myself (because I love food).

I've also been trying to eat more healthily in an effort to clear up my acne (it really works by the way- I know it might be me growing older too, but I think purposefully adding veggie and fruit into my diet has helped it stay a bit calmer). Speaking of which, I haven't had fruits today, perhaps after this I'll go on and scavenge for some fruit.

I would like to think that I'm self-aware; and while I like the person I've become, I really want to work towards being an even better person. Set aside all these high and lofty notions about how I'm so mature now, take whatever comes my way in my stride and just try to grow from it.

Ok.

I'll talk about my holidays another time. But here's a photo I really love :)

Writing is so therapeutic.

I guess it's not surprising

that old habits die hard and 1) is that I have not managed to maintain my dayre well at ALLLLL.

I guess it's a good thing because I realised (optimistically) of course, it means I have a life!!!! and I am simply caught up with reality.

and not so optimistically, I lack consistency and an ability to follow through with things... for the rest of my life?

BUT I guess it's good that this blog has been with me for all these years.

Right now, it's officially the last week of my holidays before I begin year 2 in dental school and I have tomorrow off and also today (I was so caught up with doing nothing but it felt so goooood).

For a change, that is why I decided to update my blog - not because I had work to procrastinate but simply because I had nothing to do.

I don't know where to start because I have loads of photos of hokkaido and actually hong kong too! but since I'm intending to go to bed and then continue this blogging thing tomorrow, here's just a photo of me after I've chopped my locks off (newssssss)

Excitement and Portability

I am basically updating here to say that I am now on Dayre.me!

You may visit my page which is dayre.me/hodypody via the giant dayre link on the side which you might have noticed hehehe.

I'm very excited about it because I just joined recently and it seems like a pretty much perfect solution to blogging on-the-go so most of the time I will probably put up my day-to-day updates there rather than here...

Although this wouldn't mean the end of my blog because I don't think I could bear to just abandon this treasured time capsule of mine :> Also, I don't trust dayre just yet because they are not as established as blogger which has lasted me throughout all these years and ultimately is a real blog that I can personalise and visit all my old posts at will hehe.

Through this Dayre discovery though, I have also somewhat discovered my talents in marketing and recruitment hahaha. I managed to get quite a number of my classmates on dayre within a week by psyching them up and making them think it's brilliant too! So I'm really happy about the fact that I have more dayre blogs to read. If you do join dayre please let me know (whoever ends up reading this hehehe)

It's also much easier to upload photos and all that there hahaha.

Once again, nothing new throughout the years, I'm blogging when I'm supposed to be studying. Kind of makes you wonder what else there is to this life right. It's been 9 years since I started this blog and I'm still studying. A large chunk of my life so-far has been studying.

GOTTA LIVE A LITTLE.

It's recess week now and I'm supposed to study but obviously dayre has got lots of my attention. I also intend to cook up a few cool new dishes from these cookbooks I got last week. Perhaps I will upload some photos here to archive my growth and experience hehe.

Oh oh oh,

TRAVEL UPDATES
I think it's quite safe to announce my dates here but I'm super excited that 2014 is looking to be a rather exciting year where I get to travel a lot! (ok twice- there are plans)

In April, I'll be going to Hong Kong for the HKU exchange with my class :) It should be a really wonderful time of class bonding and learning about how other dentists are being educated. Initially, I wasn't too keen because I'm the LAZIEST GIRL IN THE WORLD!!!!! and I wanted to play and not work; but I suppose alternating between days of half-day lessons and then playing wouldn't be so bad :) Especially if the company is good and the food is good. I hope Hong Kong will treat me better this time round. My impression of it wasn't so fantastic last June.

and then June! After special sem is over and before the madness of Rag preparations and orientation  comes upon us I will be going to Hokkaido!!!! I'm extremely excited because it'll be my first time going there (although strictly speaking as of right now we haven't booked the tickets)! Amelia says that the food there is the sex (which, I suppose, means it's amazing) and the ice cream and sashimi and food in general is to die for. so so so so, I'm damn excited la. I love food.

omg I really really love food.
a lot.

I'm still quite slim (for now)

but I shouldn't take that for granted. I should exercise or something because really, I'm hitting my 20s (say what-) and my metabolism is slowly degenerating. I'm going to become lumpy slowly but surely if I keep eating the way I do and not exercising.

I hope to be able to confidently put photos up here without filtering excessively and being ashamed of my body. hahahahaha.

ok ciao.

Hello Hello 2014

Every once in awhile I come back to read my blog entries and amuse myself with what and how I used to think. What went on in my life, how I portrayed it. And it strikes me every time that I started my blog in 2005 (which is primary 5, it is now 2014 and I’m going to be 20 this year).

Sure, it made me cringe in secondary school when I looked back at my primary school posts. I don’t know what made me resist it but I never deleted my blog or started a new one, instead choosing to continue on and pile all my memories into one place… putting all my eggs in one basket? No regrets though!

Why it's incredibly important to laugh at yourself:

So yes, in time everything becomes a little better and funnier and conversation starters and all, yknow :)

Anyway, yesterday, during one of those moments when I came to revisit the grave of my dead blog (which I think may be considered dead) I realised that 2013 was devoid of posts or updates about my life, and 2013 was such an eventful, momentous and important year for me. What a waste it would be if this all stopped in 2012. I actually want to see how this plays out when I’m like… 50 or something. Maybe I’ll blog on my wedding night too. hahahaha.

Of course, recounting 2013 would be impossible so let’s just make a list of momentous things that happened…

1. Dental Internship - 6 months (3 Jan 2013)
2. Got into dental school - 2 May 2013
3. :)
4. Driving license - 13 June 2013
5. Started dental school

hehe ok so I told mummy not to upload anything but on hindsight I'm glad there's a photo to remember this wonderful wonderful moment. I was so excited and elated.

So mostly I feel like I’ve made some sort of transition into adulthood or like, university life at least, all while forgetting that I turned 19 last year. In fact just two days ago, I actually said I was 18 purely by accident, probably because somewhere in my brain it never registered that I’d turned 19. (Hey, maybe that’s why it’s important to celebrate birthdays, so your brain realises something significant is happening.)

Important things I’ve realised last year were also what I should be prioritising, how I should manage my time to do things that I actually want to do. University is also a pretty important test of how you maintain your friendships I suppose. My good friends are scattered everywhere now and I’ve learnt that it takes effort to maintain these relationships.

Other things included:
1. June holiday to Taiwan/HK
2. Phuket trip with the gals (Nico, Ade, Julia) - great food, great company, great photos (which I have access to right now otherwise I wouldn't put the photos up here either hahaha, can't say the same for taiwan and hk I guess)

All in all, great year. Big year. Important year.

2014’s but barely begun and today I just took my first test of the year (as in 2014, not year 1 of dental school). School doesn’t much getting used to anymore and it’s not so bad. I realise I really enjoy learning and funnily enough, I mentioned today that for once in my life I actually want to retain my knowledge because it’ll matter in the future.

I also watched 3 Idiots with jw after school today, along with episodes of the office. It’s always great to relax and allow yourself to slack a little after cramming for a period of time. It was pretty strange this time round because the test was during CNY (hey guys happy cny!) so in between studying, I had to squeeze in some visiting. Or rather, in between visiting, I had to squeeze in some studying. But it wasn’t so bad! Really.

It won’t be long before I have to get back to the work desk and stone again, but for now it’s all good. I’m really enjoying the company I have in school and out :) which makes life pretty good right now.

Life is good, because God is good. gotta remember that.

Oh oh, tomorrow’s gonna be a short day that starts late at 11am so I’m quite happy because maybe I’ll get to bake my breakfast cups in time for school for once :D and then maybe I’ll have photos to BLOG.

hahaha, blogging makes me feel young again.

and re-reading my posts makes me feel old.

an odd day of rest

Prelims have begun and so far it's really iffy, I'm not entirely sure how I'll do but I guess I just have to remember to leave it to God and let Him decide what to do with my grades. I wasn't feeling all too well this morning when I had to take my math paper but it went as well as any other paper so thank goodness for that.

Today was an odd day where I didn't feel any desire to do work and kick start make myself productive for my chemistry paper on friday. I'm probably taking it for granted a little that I have a free day tomorrow to study and yet I feel no regret at how I spent my day. I read a little bit of literature and more importantly I read a letter from my favourite girl (hi j) and it strikes me how once in a while you meet amazing people completely by chance and they change your lives. Our world, this universe is ruled by randomness and in this randomness comes beauty and perfection. Our lives are perfect plans that coincidentally bump themselves into being, falling in place as we go along, seemingly by chance yet completely unaccidental.

But today was a perfect day, it was restful and relaxing and I like how I was not at all bothered. I touched the piano for the first time in the longest time and I stink at it now my fingers are so rusty and stiff :(

I should probably be getting to sleep now, I remember now (after being away from the computer for so long) how the internet especially on the computer is so alluring and easy to use and hence addictive it's going to keep me from my bed oh no.

Tomorrow will be a fruitful day and I will pull up my grades for every paper!!!!!!!!!!

good night xoxo

Dream Home

I am finally bored enough and free enough to blog about something that I've been wanting to for a bit now, and that is my obsession with creating lists! I don't really know what to call it actually, it's not so much as checklists as taking notes and snippets of stuff I see online and cataloguing it for my own daydream-y purposes.

Okay I think I'm being confusing, let me explain. I like using Evernote to create random notebooks where I can collate all the random ideas I have and save pictures and make comments on the posts that I make. So I've done this for our concert costuming ideas, random purchases I've made, birthday wishlists or wishlists in general, manicure ideas, clothes I'd like to buy... but predominantly it is posts and posts on furniture and my dream home.

I was mostly inspired to blog about this because we were visiting homes today (like homes for sale) and I was struck by how incredibly expensive all the houses are and how impossible it seems to buy and own a decent (okay so I have pretty high standards for decent) lovely home in Singapore. I can easily say that earning enough money to buy a lovely home to live in is one of the strongest motivations I have for doing well in school (even though it doesn't seem like it because I'm spending my time blogging right now hahaha but hey, exams just ended last week)

I'm not really a video kind of person (that is to say I don't really prefer watching videos but not that I do not watch videos at all), I like reading articles and looking at photos on

  • tumblr
  • thoughtcatalog.com
  • freshome.com
  • uhh some other sites I can't remember
  • oh and men's health hahahahahhahaha don't judge
because I read them on flipboard, which has the most amazing layout ever to read and view stuff. It's super beautiful. Here is a video to show you what flipboard is:

flipboard is how I end up sleeping at 2am when I plan to sleep at like... 10pm

I also get distracted on instagram, a recent addiction but @.@ so worth it (follow me @jodyhong hehe)

So anyway some time ago I added these random home decor and interior design feeds onto my flipboard and oooooh I realised that I would really love to own and decorate my own home in the future that is super cosy and shit. and I have notebooks on my evernote which catalogue (but it is not exhaustive because I am not always hardworking enough to save the images hehe) pretty homes and ideas. and I would like to share them here today!

So some things I would definitely love to have in my dream home are:

1. Daybeds and Swings (or daybed swings rather)

I think wanting a daybed-swing would necessarily mean that I need a lot of space in the house because this will not be my bed this will be my day bed. hahaha. Anyway, that first picture of the swing/daybed is my idea of extremememememely comfortable and perfect for a lazy day at home. to read or to play games on. yum.

Having the daybed in or outdoors does not matter to me, actually, because I think outdoors might actually be a little inconvenient and perhaps a little dirtier. I don't think I will be a very hardworking diligent home cleaner so indoors is better... definitely. besides, outside is only better if there's a lovely view or a lovely wind.

On a random note, this is also a sofa I would like to have hahaha

2. Funky Furniture

Not entirely sure how everything will be able to work out because there are such amazing random things that I'd like to incorporate into my home but here is one coffee table I would love to have.

AND THIS WORK TABLE

I can't find the video that came along about this video but those little cupboards can be hidden into the depths of the table. here's some random site talking about the table.

And the following is a screenshot I took from my iPad sometime ago. I actually find the entire setting of the second picture very lovely even though the focus is on the ballerina table.

3. Bookshelves

Now, I realise that bookshelves should go under funky furniture but... I don't care. I'm not really sure how I want my bookshelf to be like but I just know that it's imperative to have one. I've seen curved bookshelves that go around a wall, or incredibly innovative designs like this:

but I haven't decided what kind of bookshelf so... here's a list from Freshome. And oh wow, THIS:

THIS ALREADY LOOKS LIKE A PERFECT ROOM.

-

Apart from the photos that I do have, I figure I might as well start fantasizing about a lovely home with infinite space here before I end off.

I'd like a place with a lot of space, definitely, and a balcony. I'm not entirely sure how large the balcony should be, but it should exist; and it should be windy.

I'd like a living room with a large television and DVD player. Cable TV is not necessary because I honestly do not watch television shows (at all, I can safely say) so I wouldn't need it. A DVD player is necessary though. very necessary. There would be a space in front of the TV for games like wii and maybe a kinect for dance central, but honestly I do not play those games either. I would actually connect my age-old Nintento 64 to it and play pokemon stadium (provided my sister allows me to steal it, but I'll figure that out when the time comes. my sister would of course be invited to join me in my awesome living room)

this is our real nintendo 64 with our never-gets-boring Pokémon Stadium :')

Nearby, there would be a cupboard where I store my favourite boardgames like Monopoly, Game of Life, Saboteur and Twister, etc. and there should be a space somewhere in the house that can permit the playing of these games.

Now, I'm not really a cook or even close to one, but I figure I'll learn in time to come. But I know that the kind of kitchen I'd like would be the sort with an island in the centre, like this:

the island is that huge table in the centre, I find it very nice. This kitchen was just found on google I was just trying to illustrate the island hahaha.

Ooh, I'd also like ceiling to floor glass windows around the house, to let a lot of light in, because natural light is the best sort of light. Speaking of floors, I'd like either parquet or marble floors (are those the only kind?) and one room (at least) that is entirely carpeted hehe. with the furry soft kind of carpet that you could bury your face in. Only you wouldn't because that is extremely unhygienic and dubious. but would be comfortable for your butt, y'know.

kind of like the carpet in this photo but maybe not in such a sad colour

Hmm... what else?

I like wallpaper actually. and I like those homes with one wall wallpapered because I really think it adds colour and detail to homes and I'm not really the artistic sort so..

(I just found this list of white wallpapers that look pretty cool but they're not my sort but I thought I'd share it anyway)

Or maybe just really bold colours because I've seen a super lot of photos of homes with brrrriiiiilliant colour that just sounds impossible to get bored in. like this one (to see the full article click here):

That's all I can think of actually, because mostly I've been screenshooting random homes all over the world that are impossible to own but very possible to look at and admire. So I'll end off by posting them here hahaha

Sigh. lots of work to do before I can even come close to living in a home half that size hahaha but yes this is my motivation. A levels let's go.

Oh yes please

Did no one else notice how amazing it felt to sleep in this morning while the rain was pouring hard and fast and loud with the thunder roaring as if the whole earth was being shaken to its core?

Of course, all that amazing comfort was destroyed in moments just by the thought, the act of going to school. Luckily enough my mondays are pretty nice. and I ended at 11.30am this morning :> Unfortunately, I also realised that having too much free time on your hands breeds lethargy - something I unfortunately experienced myself while googling costume designs for our concert..

It started out as a bad afternoon but quickly it became absolutely wonderful as we started learning our batch choreography (by Jolene!) for the concert finale. I really really love our item and think that it's the most amazing shit in the world. It's so fun and I think we learned it at a fast but comfortable pace because we are all batchmates and there is little to no stress~

So everytime I'm being overwhelmed with the stress of not being able to complete learning all the choreographies etc etc, and just being too damn afraid of the concert drawing nearer, it's times like today that get me hyped up all over again. I'm so so so so so psyched and ready to take on the world.

Therefore, I must finish my tutorials tomorrow. That is all.

In other news, HERE ARE THE CUPBIRTHDAYCAKES I GOT FOR JEAN'S LOVELY 18TH:

omg they're such tiny images but they're actually quite high quality walao. i already took super long to upload this and i'm super tired so maybe i'll reupload them tomorrow!

goodnight!

A little push

My sister told me I should blog so I thought I would.

Today, I was watching these hair tutorials by LetsMakeItUp1 on youtube and I think her hairdo tutorials are very amazing hahaha because she always makes all the complicated hairstyles look damn easy. I tried re-creating the pretty little liar's hannah braided down-do but kind of failed cos I ended up braiding exactly what I always braid on my sister's hair when I feel like it... BUT IT TURNED OUT V PRETTY and she took a nice photo of it so here's the photo:

I think it looks super pretty and I think my sister has absolutely beautiful hair. It's super thick and healthy and I wish I could have hair like that so I can do shit with my hair too. Or I just wish I could detach my head/hair so I can do all this funky hairstyling without the arm-aches that come along with doing your own hair (ew no I take that back that's a disgusting sentiment)

Anyway, that above photo was edited with instagram.

I just discovered that instagram was a social networking thing too. I honestly did not realise that hahaha but now I realise I have some photos up too and and it's quite cool imho.

I also discovered evernote and I'm having a ball of a time archiving random shit like dream house designs and clothing designs and costume designs all on my new ipad and iphone and laptop (i am such a techno loser). and when I say archive I don't mean come up with designs I just mean saving photos from all over the place into little notebooks that synchronize across my different devices. it's just fun okay!!!

Like okay, I saved a photo of this sweater because I'd really really like to own it but I'm not quite sure whether I trust buying online goods or not but isn't it just absolutely gorgeous! I have a bias towards baggy clothing that makes me feel like I'm permanently draped in a large blanket and furthermore I imagine this would also make me feel like I am being clothed in outer space. So yes, I would like to buy this. Ah, heck I'm going to order it now.

no, on second thought I'll just wait a while longer and let this longing sit for a few good days.

In other news, my CT results are coming back and they are not good at all. I feel as if I should be a little more disappointed but one part of me knows I kind of deserve it anyway because my studying was infinitely halfhearted and definitely not determined nor focused at all. This should be a good wakeup call but I'm taking it so painlessly and I think that's bad...

NO I NEED TO START WORKING HARDER yes I do.

and it's no good that I'm discovering so many wonderful things on the internet. like online shopping (ya ok I'm very outdated ok. i took v long to trust online shopping hahaha) and and gmarket and scramble (omg) and food too.

ok that is all there's still school tomorrow I need to get back in the mood man it's already 1:08am. and it's a short week yay!

good night world.

Why can't I

just do this all the time. hahaha.

However, ladies and gentlemen, I am very proud to say that I finally managed to finish my literature assignment and just submitted it via email. Technically I already wrote half of it the last time I blogged but for some reason I was convinced sleep was more important. I wonderwhy...

ohya cos it is.

no la, I actually think such thinking on my part is extremely dangerous and self-destructive and I should try to get back into mugger mode. BUT IT'S SO HARD. I have no recollection of me ever being hardworking or willing to study... :(

I'd really rather be doing a lot of other things like 1) going out 2) shopping 3) eating 4) dancing 5) singing 6) sleeping

in fact, that is the order in which I would like to do everything, everyday.

A few days back I some bad stomachache, and I have no idea what caused it but I do have a good idea of what might have led to it. I dunno how or why but my appetite increased by like 3 times or something and I kept stuffing myself with food haha (there were a number of family dinners I think) and my increased appetite led to a lot of snacking and overstuffing and fullness which then led to stomachache for 2 days and uhh diarrhoea and discomfort and now my appetite is very tiny....

so anyway, my plan today was actually to finish my literature assignment and math assignment but I'm not on my way to being done with either (actually, half my math is done but based on trend data I'd say I'm only submitting it late tomorrow or on Monday hahaha). I feel like making random covers with our condenser microphone and I just rewatched an old video of me singing on facebook (it's private haha). The microphone quality is terrible and my singing sounds a bit painful when I hit the high notes ew cos the sound's so bad.

In other news, I'm very excited for our dance production on 4,5 May 2012!!! it's called AnyBody Can Dance and and we've been preparing super duper hard for it. That is all I'm going to say I guess because I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise.

just a random photo that I thought was nice and embodied just about everything I'd like to do with my life

I think after I'm done with this post I'm just going to take a shower and sleep instead of trying to do anything because honestly my mind is a blank and a blur

and I don't want to think anymore so...

goodnight!

It's been awhile!!

In just two months it feels like so much has happened in 2012. Just listing off the top of my head:
1. Orientation!
2. Chinese New Year
3. Dance, dance, dance
(o look, OCD hahaha)
and soon there will be
1. Auditions for new J1s
2. CTs!!!
3. STREET CONCERT!!!

As usual I am blogging because I'm trying to escape from writing my essay again (Mrs Lim, in case you ever chance upon this, you WILL receive the essay). But recently I feel like that's my favourite course of action...

I think that I've been very behind on work ever since orientation and I'm not sure how I was ever hardworking last year. I do remember being extremely organised and conscientious in my studies last year but it's so... last year. HAHA like literally. I need to organize my notes and everything and I need to catch up on my choreography in dance and and and....

sigh I'm so out of it.

For a moment I wanted to post pictures of everything that's been going on but but lazy.

Lazy should be my middle name.

Today and yesterday I have had a bad digestive system and I have been feeling unwell.
I have been stuffing myself with a LOT of food........

this is so disjointed I'm going to end it now.

happy valentine's day everybody!!

peculiar

It's 3pm on a Sunday and I am struck by the most curious sensation of having absolutely nothing to do. It's as if my options dissolved into midair and quite frankly, I don't wish to make any plans at all.

But what am I supposed to do to pass the time?
I could walk over to video king to rent a movie to watch to pass the time, but the popcorn maker has been stolen. What's a movie without popcorn?

I could go take a walk. In fact, as I was lying on the sofa just now, I thought of taking a long long walk to toa payoh, but the whole idea of moving made me feel tired all over again (pig, I know).

I thought of starting up a new blog. It's been awhile since I thought of doing that (I don't even know why). I think it's because I want to explore the different ways I could write.

(can you feel the lethargy in my voice right now?)

I could also go out and board a random bus (not that there are many, there are three) to a random stop and then to a random train station and take nice pictures there with my camera. unfortunately my sister has gone out with her friend and in my groggy state I (no, even not in my groggy state i would have) lent her my dslr.

It's rather unfair because I'm dressed rather nicely today even if my hair is looking like ultimate crap.

So what I'm probably going to do is to drink the soup that is here on the table next to me, then grab an ice cream from the fridge. I have Neil Gaiman's American Gods on the table too. I might read, or play temple run on my phone, or read lovely articles on thoughtcatalog.com, or tumblr.

or just troll social media sites all day.

or maybe, I'll be struck by another sudden desire to type something like and boring like this and I'll write another post tonight about my life.

taking an unlicensed break hahaha

egaddd you have no idea how badly i'm dying.

self-imposed incarceration. quite comfortable but nonetheless studying is so suffocating and stifling I CANNOT TAKE IT ANYMORE. you know how the closer you get to the end the worse it feels. It's like when I do my 2.4 and I'm at the last lap everything feels that much tougher.

ok so tomorrow will be my last paper and I should be using this last day for studying chem wisely but OMG SERIOUSLY I CANNOT because I'm dying just thinking about all the things I want to do post-promos ngah ngah ngah.

yesterday was amelia's birthday so I crashed her house with jesslyn and surprised the shit out of her because neither of us are supposed to know where she lives hurhurhur. it's quite sad for her I guess because she spent the rest of the day studying but it was alright I had fun hopefully she did too haha.

then I found out how badly i'm just dying to go shopping
SHOPPING
SHOPPING
SHOPPING
SHOPPING.

I can't even begin to describe it. I wanted to go to orchard last night just so I could walk into a store, like topshop or something, and touch the clothes (hahaha i sound like some addict) but omg :(

one more day one more day. I'm not even sure how I'll do for the exam tomorrow but seriously I'm just about to explode implode detonate from the suspense.

I want to shop
and watch movies (hehe last night I went out to video king and rented The Adjustment Bureau and Love & Other Drugs. I also got magazines all prepared for slacking hahaha)
and go take photographs
and dance
and play

this is the longest one day I'm going to have. I shouldn't even be online I'm halfway through a past year promo paper. I want to watch a movie now, actually.

Studying all the time makes me feel extremely obese (to all who're thinking shut up, you shut up :( ) because I'm becoming all flabby and glued to my seat. I hate running but last night I actually considered jogging JUST FOR SOMETHING TO DO.

I'm so anxious for promos to end.
end now pls I don't want to wear my school uniform i want to dress up ):

all hopeful now. less than 24h :>

Y'know

Just in case whoever still reads this thinks I'm suffering from severe chronic (does that even make sense?) depression or something, I don't. haha, it's just that I never feel a need to purge (my feelings) when I'm feeling happy. or something.

but I'd just thought I'd share this:

it's beautiful

This, my friends, is Goldkenn's Remy Martin liquor bar. which is actually very interesting because it's filled with actual champagne inside that delectable chocolate. I was surprised. This is also beginning to sound like an advertorial, which it's not.

Moving on.

Remember how it's during these most inappropriate times that I come up with the most time-consuming and retarded ideas? Or maybe just how I come up with the most time-wasting ideas when there is no time.

like, at this very moment I just remembered I have a lit assignment due tomorrow (I assume by midnight because there was no specification for time hehe), but I'm going to tell errbuddy about some fancy idea I came up with. It's hardly original, but I want to make a blog and post videos of my sis and I singing and doing stupid things (not exhaustive, of course, actually I'd open it up to anyone, we can share :> maybe.), partially because I finally figured out how nuffnang works (shut up); cos I figured, why not make the best of my youth and embarrass myself now instead of 20 years down the road when I'm too old and fat and wrinkly to do so?

but it's just an idea. I guess I was also inspired by the funny video of my mom and I in the car in the post below this one. hehe.

I have so many things to be grateful for, like how I'm an OGL now (excited!!!!) and how street is preparing for our concert next year and how I'm (hopefully) improving in my studies? That last one is a big fat hugeass maybe, but still, I'm hopeful. so my worries are just going to have to take a backseat, and hopefully they'll work themselves out.

no use worrying or letting things eat at you now.

I am looking forward to performing at some busking thing outside wisma on the 27th (next sat!) and also for teacher's day. I sincerely hope I do not screw up but I think I'll also take it in my stride, whatever happens. hahahhahahhahhaha fingers crossed.

AND GUYS I AM GOING FOR PARAMORE TMR FOR FREE.

just sayin.
